There are other forms of reiki practice but generally all use the use of had positions, either on or just above the body to channel energy; and the use of attunements, from a practiced Reiki Master to initiate the practitioner’s healing ability.

It is thought disease meaning “bad” ease is caused by blockages to the flow of energy through the chakras and meridian channels. Reiki can clear these blockages, as it allows the free flow of high vibrational energy to flow freely through the body this stimulates the body’s own healing mechanisms.
The history of reiki, a form of energy healing, traces back to early 20th-century Japan, though its roots and influences span centuries of spiritual and healing traditions.
Dr Mikao Usui was a scholar who was challenged by his students on the power of healing. He dedicated his life to find the answers as he realised, he could not teach the power of healing.
He spent many years of his life in search of the answers by travelling the world, and studying sacred scriptures, He learned many languages on his travels; and finally, on the advice of a Zen Buddhist Monk spent 21 days on a Mount Kurama a sacred mountain north of Kyoto in Japan. Here he spent the days fasting and meditating. Here he found the answers he had been looking for. He saw the sacred symbols; he had discovered in his travels, and finally knew what they meant. He had “seen the light” and became empowered to heal.
The teachings passed down through the generations tell us that after his experience on the mountain, he was went on to perform healing on many people in Japan and passed on his knowledge to Dr Chujiro, (1879-1840) a Naval Commander who opened a reiki clinic. This is where Hawayo Takata (1900-1980) who had a serious illness attended. She was so improved and impressed she trained in reiki and subsequently brought it to the west.
